Integrated NM training initiated during pre-adolescence:
- Displays highest level and quickest increase towards mature performance potential.
Onset of puberty:
- Displays slower increase and less performance potential compared to pre adolescence training
Adolescents:
- Waiting until adolescence to start integrative training displays the lowest improvement and increase towards the mature NM performance potential
This has negative effects on the sports performance capacity of the adult later in life. Starting integrative NM training early displays the highest rate of performance improvements for junior and developing athletes.
To truly develop the youth athlete for the long term:
- Fundamental movement skills must be developed early in their development
- A structured SC program needs to be incorporated to the onset of puberty
This is where our Youth Movement (YOMO) program will deliver.
Young boys and girls can increase their muscular strength above and beyond that of maturation and growth
- 30-40% increases in strength can be seen in pre-ad after short term training (8-20 weeks)
- Increase in muscular strength/improve overall health and wellness
- Improve motor skills
- Reduce injury rates in other sports
- Improve sports performance
For every 10% increase in strength for junior athletes, its reduces injury rates by 4%.

What are the 5 stages of the YOMO program
Fundamental training:
- develop movement literacy and fundamental physical capacities required for high level performance (agility, balance, coordination & speed)
- little or no emphasis on comp
Learning to train:
- emphasis on general development. Some sport specific skills introduced.
- Competitions integrated at this stage as a training tool.
Training to train:
- emphasis of training shifts from general development toward more sport specific based training.
- This includes the integration of a greater competition density as well as training which specifically targets the sport being prepared for
Training to compete:
- training becomes more focused on preparation for competition and the development of sport specific adaptations.
- Time is spent further developing sports specific skills, fitness and technical/tactical aptitude.
- Competitions become increasingly more important. Performance testing maybe introduced to direct training outcomes
Training to win:
- training is completely focused on achieving the highest level of performance at predetermined time points.
- All training activities are directed to optimize sport specific fitness, the master of technical/tactical skills related to the sport & competitive outcomes.
